About Us

Our Mission

The Sauk Rapids-Rice Youth Basketball Organization (SRRYBO) is committed to providing a fun, competitive, and skill-building travel basketball experience for students in grades 3-8 who live in or attend schools within the Sauk Rapids-Rice School District.

Our Vision

SRRYBO aims to:

  • Help players develop fundamental basketball skills and confidence on the court
  • Teach life lessons that extend beyond the game
  • Emphasize teamwork and the value of every player's contribution
  • Inspire a lasting love for basketball
  • Build a strong work ethic through consistent practice and game experiences
  • Provide competitive challenges that promote personal and athletic growth
  • Support the development of respectful, positive community members

Program Overview

SRRYBO is a proud member of the Minnesota Youth Basketball Alliance (MYBA) and adheres to all policies and guidelines set forth by the organization. The complete set of MYBA rules and standards can be found here.

Travel basketball offers a higher level of competitiveness compared to recreational leagues. Prospective players and their families should be aware of the following commitments:

  • Financial Commitment: Involves expenses related to travel, lodging, tournament fees, and more.
  • Time Commitment: Expect practices a few nights a week and games on weekends, with occasional weekday games.
  • Communication: Players and parents are expected to keep coaches informed about any absences from practices or games.

COMMUNICATIONS & UPDATES

Official weather-related announcements and important updates will be sent via email to families registered with SRRYBO. Please ensure your contact information is current to receive timely notifications.

Note: Real-time updates may not always be reflected on our website.

EVALUATION & TEAM FORMATION

Grades 3–5: Players are evaluated to form teams with balanced skill levels.

Grades 6–8: Evaluations aim to create 'A' and 'B' teams based on skill assessments.

Evaluations are conducted by designated evaluators and coaches, with team formations subject to Board approval. The standard team size is 8 to 10 players, though variations may occur based on specific circumstances.

PLAYING TIME

Grades 3–5: Playing time should be as equal as possible, ensuring all players receive meaningful minutes in each half of a game.

Grades 6–8: Playing time is earned based on attendance, attitude, effort, and skill level.

COACHING SELECTION & REQUIREMENTS

All coaching appointments are subject to approval by the SRRYBO Board. Priority consideration will be given to returning coaches from the previous season. Individuals interested in coaching must formally notify the Board of their intent.

The Board will select each Head Coach. Once approved, Head Coaches may choose an Assistant Coach from a Board-approved list of candidates.

All coaches are required to:

  • Submit a background check annually
  • Complete concussion protocol training prior to the first practice
  • Comply with any additional requirements as determined by the Board

Each coach will receive a Code of Conduct and a list of expectations prior to the season. This document must be signed and submitted to the Board before the first practice.
